Harrogate International Festivals is proud to boast a diverse range of community and education projects deriving from both our music and our literature Festivals. Working with disadvantaged young people is an important priority and thousands of young people have participated in our ReachOut community and education programmes. From DJ-ing to dhol drumming, singing to sporting poetry, Ga chants to gadget design, we bring internationally acclaimed artists and authors to engage with young people in music and literature activities of the highest quality.
The literature education projects run in conjunction with the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival and the Carnegie Sporting Words Festival. These strands have grown considerably this year with, the professional quality of Creative Thursday, the Big Read taking place on a much larger scale, the introduction of a specific Little Read event and the delivery of Carnegie Sporting Words Festival education over a longer period of time.
Our ReachOut literature education events have enabled:
- Over 1600 people this year to participate in our literature education events and engage indirectly with one of the literature Festivals.
- Both adults and children to improve their literacy skill base through engaging with authors of the highest quality of delivery.
- HIF to expand the education and community strands from the flagship music projects to include a broader spectrum of skills and opportunities.
- HIF to develop adult education as an integral facet within the ReachOut education and community programme.
