Erica Wagner, author and journalist, may have started out helping her mother open fan mail for The Muppets in New York City, but she went on to become literary editor of the Times. Now an author, consulting literary editor of Harper’s Bazaar, and writer for the New York Times amongst others, Erica’s latest work is a biography of Washington Roebling – New York’s master builder behind the Big Apple’s most celebrated landmark, the Brooklyn Bridge. It took fourteen dramatic years to complete, and the personal story that lay behind that construction is told in the Chief Engineer, for the first time. Julian Glover described it as a ‘powerful book’.
Glover’s own book Man of Iron, tells the story of Britain’s greatest civil engineer, Thomas Telford, who shaped our nation, as the inventor of the modern road and landmarks including the stupendous Menai Bridge. Man of Iron garnered huge critical acclaim as an immersive, astonishing and inspiring biography.
Julian and Erica will be interviewed by Colin Philpott, writer, presenter and media consultant.
