Berwins Salon North is a revolutionary movement for the heart and mind; consisting of a night of the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology designed to change your life for the better. Join three expert speakers for three inspiring TED-style talks on the theme of ‘Caring’, the second in our ‘Sharing, Caring, Daring’ series, interspersed with intervals allowing time for a well-crafted G&T! Expect the remarkable!
Berwins Salon North are delighted to welcome Dr Adam Rutherford – star of science on screen, author of Wellcome Trust prize shortlisted ‘Creation’ – to explore the collective memory of the human race. He will steer us through the landscape of genetics, explaining that our inherited genes should not be read like instruction manuals, more like epic poems, because they determine less about us as individuals – much more about us as a species. Beautiful stuff!
From genes to crafts, Sarah Corbett, founder of the Craftivist Collective which promotes activism by creative means, will be telling us how we might need our creative and craft skills in the future and how we go about developing them. Growing up in the 80s in the fourth most deprived ward in the UK: West Everton, she was brought into the world of activism from a young age having experienced first-hand her community battling against the effects of inequality. Sarah is passionate about empowering and encouraging people to use their hobbies, talents and influence to be the change they wish to see in the world. The collective has of members all over the world and Sarah continues passionately to inspire people to see craftivism as a fun, unthreatening, caring and thought provoking way of effective activism.
Shifting our focus from the external to the internal, Prof Stephen Joseph, renowned professor of Psychology, Health and Social Care and co-director of the Centre for Trauma, Resilience and Growth, will teach you how to be yourself, and why it matters! Sharing research from his new book ‘Authentic’, a fresh and compelling perspective on the psychology of authenticism, both in the professional and personal, Stephen will draw on powerful case studies from his and others clinical experiences which have led to gold-standard tests for assessing authenticity based on the solid science of positive psychology. Find out why and how in valued relationships you drop your defences and ultimately learning that in all areas of life it is authenticity that really leads to true happiness!
