He may be Barnsley FC poet-in-residence, the Beat Poet for Humberside Police, and the remarkable robustly funny, humane and adventurous presenter of BBC 3’s The Verb, but the Bard of Barnsley is also Twitter’s poet laureate.
Ian McMillan never fails to inspire with his appetite, excitement and ravenous spirit for words and poetry, so much so The Observer exclaimed: “With McMillan, you feel a draught coming from the blast of fresh air blowing through the dusty cobwebs that festoon most literary programmes.”
In Harrogate, he’ll literally be channelling a blast of fresh air, direct from the beautiful Valley Gardens where a small number of lucky people will have the opportunity to accompany Ian on one of his famed Early Morning Strolls on Friday 7 July at 8am. To be in with a chance, simply write your own Early Stroll poem and share on Twitter, tagging @HarrogateFest and @IMcMillan.
Then at 1pm in Wesley Chapel, join Ian for an afternoon of songs from composer Richard Barnard, set to Ian’s Tweets inspired by his morning walks.
It’s literally poetry in motion. Full of warm humour and poignant vignettes, Early Stroll Songs will charm your socks off.
