Why is the past so fashionable again? Historical crime novelists explore timeless questions.
Super sleuth of the past is music journo-turned-crime author, William Shaw, who sets his Breen and Tozer books in the swinging sixties. Antonia Hodgson (who was born the year Hunky Dory was released) won the CWA Historical Dagger for her first novel, The Devil in the Marshalsea. SG MacLean has a PhD in history and a growing New Model Army of fans for her Seeker series set in Oliver Cromwell’s London. Graeme Macrae Burnet is one of Scotland’s brightest literary talents. His Bloody Project was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2016. Master of the past’s dark secrets, Robert Goddard, chairs.
