William McIlvanney- The Godfather of Tartan Noir

William McIlvanney is the undisputed Godfather of the Tartan Noir genre. His work has inspired many writers including the likes of Ian Rankin and Val McDermid. Through Jack Laidlaw, McIlvanney introduced the world to the concept of the ‘damaged detective’.

William McIlvanney will be in conversation with Ian Rankin at the Crime Writing Festival this weekend as the pair discuss how Laidlaw inspired Rebus and many more and the impact of Tartan Noir on the world of Crime Fiction.
