Saturday 1 July
St Wilfrid’s Church | Harrogate | 7.30pm

Please note this event has now taken place.

In 2016, Armonico Consort began a musical adventure which had never been attempted before – a thorough and much needed exploration of the relationship between wine and music in all its forms. We were so staggered by the full houses and phenomenal audience responses that we decided to delve a little further into what was clearly a treasure chest of musical, historical and wineological joy.

In this second, brand new programme, to be premiered at the Harrogate International Festivals, wine critic and broadcaster Oz Clarke returns with some extraordinary tales to explore a new wine-tasting journey.  We will start in the British Isles investigating how it was the Brits who invented champagne, not the French! We then hurtle over to Germany and the Rhine where we discover more about Hildegard of Bingen, before indulging ourselves in a world of Beethoven some may find both surprising and alarming. Finally we will end in Austria and Mozart’s Vienna where we will aim to find out just why the wine in that region inspired some of the greatest music this planet has ever seen!
