Generations upon generations of composers have influenced and inspired each other and this concert features two newly commissioned pieces of music from two of today’s most promising young composers; Mark Simpson and Gareth Williams. This programme of new music is balanced by two pieces by one of the greatest composers of all time; Beethoven.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2017, The Gould Piano Trio has maintained a
commitment to promoting the work of new composers and the Trio has recently commissioned works from composers including Sir James MacMillan. Strad Magazine has described the ensemble as “Pure Gould” and their extensive discography combines the works of well-known composers with works by contemporary composers. “After Avedon” was commissioned as part of the Trio’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.

“The only comparison that comes to mind is the old Beaux Arts Trio; the combination of jeweller-like precision and a musical fire that ignites from the first bar” – Washington Post
