The Wild Foundations

The Wild Foundations is an engagement project created by Harrogate International Festivals, with support and funding from the family of Victor Wild.

The project aims to develop skills, expand arts opportunities and inspire creativity in young people across Harrogate and Knaresborough. Designed to give participating students the foundations for the future by providing arts experiences they may not have otherwise encountered.

The workshops are being delivered to 10 schools across Harrogate and Knaresborough: Coppice Valley Primary School, Meadowside Academy, New Park Primary Academy, Aspin Park Academy, Willow Tree Community Primary School, Grove Road Community Primary School, Hookstone Chase Primary School, Rossett Acre Primary School, Rossett School (secondary) and Saltergate School.

These immersive education workshops, established in memory of Victor Wild of Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate, are aimed at children aged nine to twelve and support the Music curriculum and both the English and Science curriculums.

We are grateful to the Wild family for their donations to the Wild Foundations and for their support and commitment to this education programme enabling us to continue delivering high quality arts opportunities to local schools across the next five years.

Kids, Spies and PIs

Kids, Spies and PIs are a series of workshops closely linked to the English and Science curriculums. These workshops aim to develop crucial skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and communication.

Sessions are delivered by an ex-detective or ex-police officer and published crime author who provide valuable insight into their careers and experiences. Typically, the workshops are based around an interactive crime scene, giving students the opportunity to take on the role of detective. Students work in groups to piece together evidence and build a story line before they are encouraged to start writing their own stories.

Global Villages

Global Villages is the music strand of the Wild Foundations workshops. These workshops aimed to develop musical skills as well as introduce students to new instruments and non-western music genres.

By working with a variety of musical groups who help design and deliver the interactive workshops, we can offer schools unique and diverse opportunities to get involved in music making. Sessions use collaborative activities to introduce new skills whilst strengthening existing abilities resulting in improved confidence and musical competence.
