BERWINS SALON NORTH RETURNS WITH END-OF-YEAR DIGITAL SHOWSTOPPER.

Berwins Salon North is making a welcome return this week with an end of year showstopper featuring a trio of eminent and engaging speakers.

Sponsored by Harrogate law firm, Berwins, and produced by Harrogate International Festivals, the running theme behind all three discussions is none other than the world-wide coronavirus pandemic.

This special virtual edition has been curated by Salon creator, Helen Bagnall, and will be streamed on the HIF Player on the Festivals’ website from Thursday, December 10.

After being introduced by Helen, the guest speakers – Texan entrepreneur and business psychologist Margaret Heffernan, laparoscopic consultant Dr Andrew Jenkinson, and social geographer Prof Danny Dorling – will each deliver thought-provoking ‘TED-style’ talks.

In ‘How to Map the Future’, Margaret Hefferman, whose TED talks have been viewed by more than seven million people, she explores why we need less tech and messier human skills – imagination, humility, bravery – to create the futures we want and can believe in.

The question ‘Why we Eat (too much)’ is answered by one of Britain’s leading weight loss surgeons, Dr Andrew Jenkinson, who will present his incredible new research into the science of appetite, debunk the great myths of the body, and explain how the new science of metabolism illuminates how our appetite really works.

Prof Danny Dorling will conclude the evening by telling us all to ‘Slowdown’. He’ll take the audience through the coming post-pandemic slowdown and explain how we can all make the most of it.

Lizzie Brewster, Head of Development & Comms at Harrogate International Festivals, said: “First and foremost I would like to thank Berwins for their continued sponsorship of Salon North.

“Their support over the last five years has been invaluable, and despite not being able to hold Salon North physically, I’m delighted to say the show is still going on, albeit in a different format.

“That said, being a virtual event, everyone attending will be guaranteed a front-row seat and it can be enjoyed in front rooms across the entire world.

“To launch the new series we have selected three superb speakers who will help us end this ‘annus horribilis’ on something of a high note.”
