Harrogate International Festivals presents one of the Spa town’s most sought after events – Berwins Salon North – the revolutionary movement for the heart and mind.

Returning for a summer series, the Salon consists of three expert speakers who deliver TED-style talks exploring the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology.

The series ‘AI, DIY, ISpy’ begins with the theme ‘AI’ on June 22, with leading minds unpicking Artificial Intelligence.

Martin Whincup, Marketing Manager at Berwins, said: “We take great pride supporting the Festivals to continue to bring the Berwins Salon North series to Harrogate. As the upcoming series shows, Berwins Salon North features some of the leading minds at work today. The theme of this summer’s series is a spotlight on the future – an outlook which mirrors our own as a progressive, forward thinking law firm. As a long-standing, committed part of our community, we’re proud to support the festival – Harrogate deserves the very best when it comes to such high quality events.”

‘AI’ features Arthur Miller, emeritus professor of history and philosophy of science at University College London. The experienced broadcaster will explore how Artificial Intelligence will shape creativity, including the worlds of art and music.

Alex Evans is a Campaign Director at the global citizens’ movement Avaaz. He’s worked on global issues in the UN, and as a consultant for the US National Intelligence Council. He will argue that in this time of global crisis and transition we need to find new myths that unite us, and speak of renewal.

Timandra Harkness is a science writer, broadcaster and comedian as well as resident reporter on social psychology series, The Human Zoo. Big data knows where you’ve been and who your friends are. It knows what you like. Timandra takes a whirlwind tour of how people are using big data today: from science to smart cities, business to politics.

Gemma Rowland, Operations Manager at Harrogate International Festivals, said: “Since we first brought the Salon to Harrogate after its huge success in London, it’s become one of our most popular events. If you’ve experienced a Salon before you’ll know why, if you haven’t, I’d urge you to book early so not to miss out.”

The Salon series continues with the theme ‘DIY’ on July 27, featuring the Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media at the think tank Demos, Jamie Bartlett. He’ll be joined by the assistant professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Adam Kucharski, and Justine Solomons, founder of Byte the Book.

It concludes on September 7 with ‘ISpy’ featuring Matt Bannister, the RADA actor who teaches how to use acting devices in the boardroom. He’ll be joined by the world’s first forensic jeweller, Marie Maclennan, who cracks crimes studying jewellery found at crime scenes, and bestselling author David Adam will show you how to boost your IQ and release your inner genius.
