With showstopping performances from musical virtuosos and atmospheric concerts by candlelight, Harrogate Music Festival features a thrilling and diverse line-up this June and July.
Classical music fans are in for a real treat with rising star of the violin world Esther Abrami, who will perform a traditional classical repertoire alongside works from her new album, Cinéma, a collection of her favourite film and TV scores including new arrangements of blockbuster hits such as ‘The Witcher’ and ‘The Hunger Games’, at The Crown Hotel.
The US-based Grand Symphonic Winds, an acclaimed wind ensemble, will be performing in the stunning, atmospheric setting of St Wilfrid’s Church. So, too, will the critically acclaimed choral group Apollo5, described as “faultless” by BBC Music Magazine, with a candlelight performance that promises to be one of many Festival highlights.
The magical Spiegeltent returns to Crescent Gardens from June 28 to July 7, where audiences can enjoy a dazzling array of musicians and performers in a unique and glamorous setting.
Among them are the Gildas Quartet, the prize-winning British string group, praised for their fresh and innovative take on classical music. Audience members will be seated for the first half of the performance and in the second they will be able to experience the quartet in “surround sound” as they move between the players.
Joining them in the Spiegeltent will be the brilliant Maxwell Quartet, first prize winner and audience prize winner at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition 2017. Now widely regarded as one of Britain’s best young string quartets, they will be tapping into their folk heritage to wow audiences with their unique sound.
Another two incredible talents – acclaimed guitar and violin duo Plínio Fernandes and Braimah Kanneh-Mason – will perform at The Old Swan Hotel on July 13, bringing this year’s festival to a close.
Virtuoso guitarist Fernandes was named on Forbes Brazil’s Under 30 list and a Rising Star by Classic FM, while Kanneh-Mason, part of the legendary musical family, is a multi-award-winning violinist.
Sharon Canavar, Harrogate International Festivals Chief Executive, said: “Harrogate Music Festival is one of the highlights in Yorkshire’s cultural calendar and once again it has brought together a brilliant and eclectic range of internationally renowned musicians and performers.”
