The Yorkshire Post has joined forces with Harrogate International Festivals to bring back the popular Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch.

War correspondent and author, Martin Bell, will feature on April 25 at the Cairn Hotel in Harrogate. Audiences will have the opportunity to buy pre-release copies of his new book, War and The Death of News: Reflections of a Grade B Reporter. The book is not due for general release till June. Bell will also be signing after the lunch.

War and The Death of News is a compelling account that mixes autobiography, reportage and a ‘state of the nation’ survey of wartime reporting from one of the outstanding TV journalists of our time. Martin Bell has been under fire in conflicts from Belfast to Nigeria and El Salvador, and kept the company of soldiers, warlords, mercenaries and militias. He also spent four years in the surrogate war zone of the House of Commons.

Bell draws on his memories as a soldier and journalist, using notebooks, diaries and poetry, reflecting on the pity of war, as well as the complex relationship between the media and the military.

Gemma Rowland, Operations Manager at Harrogate International Festivals, said: “We’re delighted to announce that the Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch will be a regular fixture in our annual delivery. It’s a great addition to our portfolio, which puts Harrogate firmly on the literary map.”

The second Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch will take place during the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival in October. The boutique literary event was chosen by Harper’s Bazaar as one of its top literary picks. The programme for the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival, now in its seventh year, will be announced early July.

The Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch with Martin Bell will take place on April 25, 12 noon at the Cairn Hotel, Harrogate.
