Harrogate, 29 June 2022
Robert and Ben Ogden, owners of Ogden of Harrogate and this year’s sponsors of the Spiegeltent have officially opened this unique space for this year’s season.
With its bohemian mirrored walls, wooden floors, stained glass, red velvet booths, and lamped lighting, the Spiegeltent is the perfect backdrop for this year’s carefully curated programme of jazz, funk, burlesque, and much more.
Launching with the legendary Graeme Park on 30 June, the Spiegeltent will play host to a heady collection of globally renowned artists and household names, including Benoit Viellefon, Kasai Masai, Jo Harrop, The Gypsy Queens, House of Burlesque and London Afrobeat Collective.
Spiegeltent is supported by Ogden of Harrogate, known for its stunning collection of fine jewellery and distinguished clients. The James Street business is run by Robert and Ben Ogden, direct descendants of founder Robert Ogden, and have had a long affiliation with the Festivals over recent decades.
Also supporting the events in the Spiegeltent is Slingsby’s Gin who unsurprisingly are part of the Oz & Armonico Drink To Music: Gin & Phonic event, a thrilling journey with renowned wine critic and drinks expert Oz Clarke and the acclaimed Armonico Consort into the relationship between gin and music. Whether dancing on the tables or propping up the bar, there can be no doubt that gin and music go hand in hand, and this promises to be an entertaining night of music, expertly hosted by the inimitable Oz, and with the best gin in town.
Spiegeltent will also play host to Argentinian pianist and composer Silas Bassa, in association with Rudding Park. Silas currently resides in France, where he has topped the classical music charts, and his Spiegeltent programme promises to enthrall with music inspired by his South American roots and training with the music masters of Paris. Rudding Park Spa have just week beat off stiff competition to be crowned Best Destination Spa in the UK, an apt nod to the Festivals who were built on the entertainment circuit of Harrogate’s historic spa water.
The Crown Hotel is Harrogate International Festival’s accommodation partner, welcoming a variety of artists as they arrive to perform in Harrogate, providing the perfect welcome and location for the week’s entertainment
Sharon Canavar, Chief Executive of Harrogate International Festivals said “We would like to thank all our sponsors, without whom Spiegeltent would simply not be possible.
“As a charity, we rely on funding from a variety of different sources, including local and regional businesses.
“Without support from the likes of Ogdens, Rudding Park, Slingsby Gin and The Crown Hotel, we just wouldn’t be able to bring the world-class artists, speakers, musicians and performers Harrogate International Festivals has become famed for.”
