Heathcliff Trio will perform in Harrogate

Harrogate, 26 July 2022

The Heathcliff Trio won first prize in the 9th International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in May this year, with an additional special prize for the best interpretation of a piece by Brahms – and now the acclaimed trio will bring Brahms to Harrogate.

In a change to their advertised programme, Heathcliff Trio will play Brahms’ Trio in C minor Op. 101 at the Wesley Centre on Wednesday 27 July at 7.30pm. Composed in the summer of 1886 when Brahms was at the peak of his powers, the sweeping melodies of this piece mark the apotheosis of the romantic piano trio.

From the romance of Shostakovich’s “Poeme” to the drama of Beethoven’s “Ghost” and sheer joy of Haydn’s Piano Trio in A Major, Heathcliff Trio promise an exquisite evening performance.

Listen to the Heathcliff Trio play Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio no. 2 Op. 66, 4th movement in the clip below.

Heathcliff Trio Programme

Haydn | Piano Trio in A major Hob. XV:35

Brahms | Trio in C minor Op. 101

Beethoven | Piano Trio Op. 70, No. 1 “Ghost”

Shostakovich | Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor, Op. 8 “Poeme”
