Award-winning crime novelist Denise Mina will be acting as this year’s Festival Chair, following in the footsteps of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, and Lee Child.

Denise Mina, bestselling author of the Garnethill trilogy and the Paddy Meehan novels, says: “The Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival is the greatest crime writing event of the year so it is a very real honour to be chairing it, to work with the programming committee and to have the chance to attend all the thrilling events. After the difficulties and hardships of the past two years we are all very much looking forward to all of the writers and readers coming together in Harrogate once more.”

Special guests on this year’s incredible line-up, curated by Mina, include crime fiction titans such as: Lynda La Plante, Paula Hawkins, Tess Gerritsen, Michael Connelly, Lucy Foley, Charlie Higson, John Connolly, CL Taylor and Kathy Reichs.

Tickets will be released at different stages over the next few weeks. Find out below about our different ticket types:

Weekend Break Package

The confidence of booking your Weekend Break Package with the HIF team, includes 3-night accommodation with breakfast, access to the Festival main stage with your weekend rover ticket, where all the authors will be in action on the Old Peculier Stage, first opportunity to access tickets to exclusive on site publisher events and of course, a Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival goody bag.

Rover Tickets

Be up close to the action, with access and a guaranteed seat to all Festival events taking place in the Live Event Tent on the days of your choosing, with tickets available from just the one day to the full weekend. And of course, access to our bars, signing room and book shops as well as going home with your own Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival goody bag.

Individual Event Tickets

We know that you might be interested in attending just a few selective events of your choosing, perhaps one where your favorite author is appearing on stage, or to find out more about a topic that you are most interested in.

That is why you will be able to purchase tickets for only those events of your choice, whilst still being able to be part of the Festival atmosphere, attend the book signing, and enjoy a pint of Theakston Old Peculier at the bar.

Individual event tickets purchased will grant you access to the site for the day of the event booked.

Author Dinners

Looking for something special to do for dinner across the weekend of the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival? Then join us for our special Author Dinner where you’ll enjoy dinner with some of our favourite authors on this year’s programme.

A unique opportunity to get to know authors in a relaxed dinner environment, you’ll learn all about your table host and their writing.

Tickets include a two course meal, a glass of wine and a copy of your table host’s book.

And because it would not be the a true crime evening without a mystery to be solved, will your table be the team that finds out who did it?…. more details soon.

Site Passes

Looking to be part of the main Festival without committing yet as of which event to attend?

Our Site Passes grant you access to the main Festival grounds of The Old Swan Hotel, with access to the hospitality tents and tuck shops, signing room and book shop.

These will be available to purchase for the full weekend or by individual day. Please note that a site pass must be purchased, if you are not booking any other tickets, in order to be allowed access to the Festival site.

Creative Thursday

Creative Thursday will return on the 21st July 2022. Hear from successful authors who took the plunge to attend Creative Thursday and subsequently found themselves on the path to publication! Who knows, one day that could be you!

If other years are to go by, this years tickets will sell out very fast once on sale. We advise you to set up an account in advance and check all your details are up to date. See below the three different ways you will be able to purchase a ticket;

Online – If you don’t have an account set up already, we would advise doing so so you’re ready for when we go on sale. If you already have one, log into the ‘My Account’ section of our site and make sure all your details are up to date – and select book now above to book.

Box Office – If you would rather buy your tickets in person, come down to the box office in person and one of the team will process the transaction for you. Our box office can be found on 32 Cheltenham Parade, Harrogate, HG1 1DB and is open Monday-Friday between 10.00am and 5.00pm (excludes bank holidays)
