Two virtuoso musicians set to light up the Festival

 Harrogate International Festivals

Two hugely gifted musicians – acclaimed guitar and violin duo Plínio Fernandes and Braimah Kanneh-Mason – will bring this year’s HACS Harrogate Music Festival to a close with what promises to be a dazzling performance at The Old Swan Hotel on July 13.

These prodigious talents have been making waves in the music world in their own right and together make a formidable pairing.

Virtuoso guitarist Fernandes was named on Forbes Brazil’s Under 30 list and a Rising Star by Classic FM. Born into a family of musicians in São Paulo, Brazil, his recent highlights include performances with Lang Lang and a sell-out UK tour with Braimah Kanneh-Mason, with whom he has teamed up for this special Harrogate performance.

Braimah Kanneh-Mason comes from Britain’s most gifted classical musical family, and is one of seven siblings making their mark in the music business. A multi-award-winning violinist, Braimah is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music where he was a scholarship student, winning the Harold Craxton Prize, the John McAslan Prize and the Dame Ruth Railton Chamber Music Prize.

He’s gone on to perform at the BBC Proms and at iconic venues such as Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall and Melbourne Symphony Hall, and collaborated with the likes of Nicola Benedetti and Priya Mitchell.

Braimah and Plinio’s exciting Harrogate programme dips into their classical repertoire infused with elements of folk and dance, and includes everything from works by Argentine composer Piazzolla and Bach to Spanish pianist Manuel de Falla and American folk musician Jay Ungar.
