Dr Lucy Rogers MBE is an award winning engineer, inventor and science communicator with an extraordinary talent for making complex ideas feel exciting, accessible, and full of wonder. A Visiting Professor at Brunel University London and author of It’s ONLY Rocket Science, Lucy has inspired audiences around the world with her engaging approach to engineering. In this fast paced and fascinating talk, she will take us on a journey through the hidden science of the sky, bridging awe, wonder, and surprise.
Dr Kate Lister is an award winning historian, author, broadcaster and the creator of the acclaimed Whores of Yore project. Known for bringing history’s most intriguing and often scandalous stories to life with wit and rigour, she has built a global following across her writing and podcast Betwixt the Sheets. In this captivating session, Kate explores how to become a royal mistress, guiding us through the lives of history’s most infamous women, from the maîtresses en titre of the French court to the passionate liaisons of the English monarchy.
Monica Feria-Tinta is a barrister at the Bar of England and Wales, specialising in public international law. She has been described as one of ‘the most daring, innovative and creative lawyers’ in the United Kingdom for her work addressing climate change. Her talk will look at the law as a tool for protecting the planet, and the real life cases where justice for the environment has been sought in court.
Each talk runs 25 minutes, with intervals to grab a drink, browse books from our incredible local bookseller Imagined Things, or simply soak up the buzzing atmosphere. Raworths Salon North is a night to feed your curiosity, spark your imagination, and leave inspired, entertained, and intellectually charged. The event will be hosted by the incredible producer and presenter Natasha Knight.

Dr Lucy Rogers
Dr Lucy Rogers MBE is an award-winning engineer, inventor and science communicator with an unparalleled ability to make the marvels of the universe accessible and inspiring. With a career that spans designing animatronic dinosaurs, innovating space-debris-mitigation technologies, and serving as a judge on BBC’s Robot Wars, she has brought creativity and curiosity to every facet of her work. As a Visiting Professor of Engineering: Creativity and Communication at Brunel University London, she empowered the next generation of innovators to think beyond conventional boundaries, and her first book, It’s ONLY Rocket Science, has been widely acclaimed for making aerospace engineering accessible to a broad audience. She is currently exploring the development of an Extreme Environments Engineering Hub, aiming to build international collaborations that translate insights from extreme environments into resilient technologies. Honoured with an MBE in 2024 for her services to engineering, she has also captivated global audiences of all ages at conferences and science festivals. She lives on a narrowboat in the East Midlands.
Dr Kate Lister
Dr Kate Lister is an award-winning historian, author, columnist and broadcaster specialising in the history of sexuality, gender and sex work. As the creator of the acclaimed research project Whores of Yore, she has built an international following by bringing forgotten, fascinating and often scandalous histories to life with wit, rigour and irreverence. She is the author of FLICK: The Story of Female Pleasure, due for release 28/05/2026, A Curious History of Sex and Harlots, Whores and Hackabouts, host of the Betwixt the Sheets podcast, and a passionate advocate for making history accessible, inclusive and gloriously entertaining. Kate has presented talks on her research at top institutions including the Wellcome Trust, the British Library and the British Science Museum, and is widely recognised as one of Britain’s most distinctive and engaging public historians.
Monica Feria-Tinta
Monica is an award-winning barrister and the author of the critically acclaimed book A Barrister for the Earth, referred to as ‘a vital book for our times’ and ‘radically rethinking our way of inhabiting the Earth’. She acted in the seminal Rights of Nature case Los Cedros – a world precedent on an eco-centric approach to nature protection, and on landmark climate cases globally. Her work has contributed to systemic changes addressing climate change and the protection of the natural world. She was a ‘Barrister of the Year’ finalist at The Lawyer Awards 2025 and The Times’ first ‘Lawyer of the Week’ in 2025. She has been referred to as ‘one of Britain’s most dazzling legal minds’ and her work has been featured in The Times, The Guardian, Prospect Magazine, Vogue, Vanity Fair Italia, and BBC Radio 3 and 4.
