Young Musician 2: Charlotte Spruit
Charlotte Spruit is a Dutch violinist known for her expressive and captivating performances as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Charlotte studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her Master’s degree. She has won numerous awards, including first prize at the Leipzig International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition and the Young Classical Artists Trust Auditions.
Her programme opens with Beethoven’s Sonata No. 10 in G major, Op. 96, his final violin sonata, known for its gentle, elegant dialogue between violin and piano. This work reflects Beethoven’s more restrained and refined style, inspired by the delicate playing of the violinist it was written for. It is followed by Schumann’s intense and emotional Violin Sonata No. 2 in D minor, Op. 121, which was first performed by Schumann’s wife Clara and the famous violinist Joseph Joachim. Schumann’s sonata explores a wide range of moods and techniques. Together, these two sonatas offer a beautiful journey from classical balance to romantic passion.
