Behind the Scenes with Kate Vigurs

We sat down with historian, broadcaster and author, Kate Vigurs, to ask her a few of our burning questions. Read on to find out about Kate’s latest read, her writing soundtrack and the most overused word in her vocabulary…

What’s your go-to writing soundtrack – or do you prefer silence?

I prefer peace and quiet, my brain is busy enough!

What’s the last book that made you miss your stop / bedtime / reality?

Rivers of London – it transports you to another world and is such a great way to escape

If you could co-write with any author (living or dead), who would it be?

I would write with one of the secret agents who I have written about, it would be so great to know their thoughts on it all!

What would your 12-year-old self think of your current job?

Never in a million years did I think I would be a historian, never mind a published author who does TV and radio stuff!

What’s a word you overuse (and secretly love)?

Hagiographic

What book do you wish everyone would read – at least once?

A history of the world in ten and a half chapters

What’s the most surprising thing a fan has ever said to you?

They asked my sister what is was like to be related to me.

What’s the best part of taking part in a live event and why do you think events like this are important?

I love the audience feedback, the vibe in the room – the noises of surprise, shock and awe for the women I talk about.

What are you looking forward to about coming to Harrogate?

It’s my home town – I love everything about Harrogate.
