“While many of us presume to know gravity quite well, the brightest scientists in history have yet to fully answer the simple question – what exactly is gravity?”

World-renowned physicist and theoretical physics professor Claudia de Rham has been playing with gravity her entire life: As a diver, experimenting with her body’s buoyancy in the Indian Ocean; as a pilot, soaring over Canadian waterfalls on dark mornings before beginning her daily scientific research; as an astronaut candidate, dreaming of the experience of flying free from Earth’s pull; and as a physicist, discovering new sides to gravity’s irresistible personality by exploring the limits of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

Claudia joins Berwins Salon North to reflect on her intimate experiences with gravity and share her personal pursuit to uncover the mysteries of this fundamental force.

“We are neither masters nor victims of our technologies. They are part of who we are, and our future – and theirs – is in our hands.”

Join Dr Tom Chatfield, author and tech philosopher, as we explore the co-evolution of humanity and technology – and the lessons our deep past may hold for the present – from the first use of tools and the taming of fire to the development of the computer, the creation of the internet and the emergence of AI.

What’s behind the political mayhem of the past few years?
Why has everything become so tribal?
And why did a British Prime Minister become synonymous with an iceberg lettuce?

Journalist, writer and broadcaster Dr Phoenix Andrews joins Berwins Salon North to shed light on the fascinating world of fandoms and reveal how a passion wave of people power has become the hidden force behind the most surprising events in recent history – from the mass movements resulting in Brexit and Trump, culture wars and conspiracy theories, to online engagement that enriches lives and inspires positive social and political change.

‘Berwins Salon North is unique, I’ve never lived anywhere that had anything like it. It’s great!’
