Bringing inspiring interviews, podcasts and music performances to you completely free

HIF Player brings you all the fun of our inspiring, world-renowned Festivals in the comfort of your own home. From podcasts with leading thinkers and famous authors to inspiring classical playlists and DJ sets, HIF Player has been enthralling and enlightening audiences in equal measure since its launch in 2020.

Where else can you enjoy interviews with such literary greats as Lee Child, Ken Follett and Val McDermid, and listen to such diverse music as Graeme Park’s Hacienda DJ set and classical concerts by the likes of Julian Lloyd-Webber and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – all for free!

And now it’s even better with new fortnightly podcast releases featuring the best from our Berwins Salon North series, Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival series and highlights from the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival.

The new, enhanced, HIF Player kicks off with Peter Olusoga’s brilliant Modern Mindfulness talk, recorded live at Berwins Salon North in February 2024. Dr Olusoga, host of the award-winning podcast, Eighty Percent Mental, and Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, demystifies the art of mindfulness into something we can all use in our daily lives, shedding light on the pitfalls of ‘grind’ culture and highlighting the benefits of embracing ‘unproductivity’ in the pursuit of living well.

HIF Player was launched in response to the pandemic offering a lifeline to audiences by enabling them to experience art and culture at a time when much of the world was in lockdown. It has proved hugely popular with more than 36,000 plays, attracting listeners from not only here in Yorkshire, but across the UK and all over the world.

This unique and carefully curated content, which can be accessed easily online by anyone at any time completely for free, covers a wide range of genres – from crime writing and composing to the latest big ideas in politics, science and psychology – featuring such luminaries as Ian Rankin, Lucy Worsley, Lady Hale, Dr Kate Fox, Rory Bremner and Momo Kodama.

Now, with even more entertaining and thought-provoking interviews and podcasts being made available, HIF Player brings you the very best that art and culture has to offer.
